Darren Millane – The Raging Bull

This magnificent fine art lithograph has been meticulously reproduced from the original oil painting by renowned sports artist, Jamie Cooper. It depicts Collingwood champion Darren Millane in his trademark pose, streaming down the member’s wing at Victoria Park.

From the Artist: “I can honestly say this painting has a personal connection for me. I played against Darren during my career for Fitzroy FC. and can attest first hand, as to his skill and presence on the field. As you can see one of the images above, that’s Darren out-playing me on that very member’s wing at Victoria Park. He was fast, fearsome and bigger and stronger than most wingmen of that era. And he had a heart as big as a Lion!

This painting and print run was instigated by Darren’s brother Sean, with permission from the entire Millane family. The image in this painting was chosen by Darren’s mother Denise, as her favourite image of her late son.

The sight of the man they called “Pants” was all too familiar tearing down the field at the beloved Vic Park. Here he is cheered on by the Magpie faithful. Have a close look at the crowd and see several famous faces who were significant in Darren’s life and career. The origin of his nickname is also revealed.

Also note the ghostly image of the raging bull in the sky and the roof of the bus parked outside the ground.

‘Pants’ was a courageous and charismatic Magpie, crowd favorite and THE driving force behind the 1990 Premiership.

Darren, willing himself through that entire finals series with a badly broken thumb, and still dominating up to and including the Grand Final, has become part of Magpie folklore. It was fitting that the ball was in his hands at the final siren.

R.I.P champ

With permission from his mother Denise, all 542 limited edition prints contain Darren’s facsimile signature and have been hand signed by the artist. Each print comes with a personally signed Certificate of Authenticity from the Artist.
