PAINTING STORY

I spoke directly to Trent about the defining moments in his career and what he felt most proud of about being a Tiger player, leader and person.

He felt that in terms of on-field, the goal he kicked in the last quarter of the 2017 Qualifying Final v Geelong was a memorable moment. It was not so much the resultant goal that iced the game which resonated with him (and the fans), but his fearless attack on the ball that enabled it. I saw it as a ferocious act of courage, with a near certain head on collision with Mitch Duncan, only avoided by Trent’s 150% commitment to getting there a split second before, to spin away from the bemused Cat midfielder and bang it on his left foot and through the sticks.

But I wanted to also reflect upon his off-field commitment to being a true leader for the Club and Tiger community. The incredible success he has achieved on the field is a result of 15 seasons (and more) of hard work. Of getting up off the canvas again and again to keep on striving, learning and growing, both as a player and a person. We all remember the criticism Trent received as a young Captain. He told me of a quote that helped him through those tough times.

“Often from your darkest times comes your greatest lessons and growth”.

That’s why we see the young Trent, in the darkness of the background is picking himself up off the ground and looking forward in time to what he will achieve, if he keeps the belief, in both himself and club he loves. The rest as they say… is history.
